Working Holiday Ideas in Ibiza

There are lots of reasons why people want to find jobs abroad. It could be they’re just out of University or College, want to earn a little cash and at the same time experience life in another country. It might even be because they’re just fed up of working in their own country, want to take a break but need to earn money. Finding summer jobs in foreign lands is an option and there are some interesting places to go to with great job choices too.

Everyone knows what a fun island Ibiza has turned into, the weather is superb and there is so much to see and do. Finding a summer job out there is not that easy because although there are loads to choose from, there are masses of people applying for them. Because it gets so busy during the height of the summer, restaurants need staff, clubs need dancers and bars need glass collectors to name just a few of the popular jobs available. Some of the jobs are pretty lucrative although in general jobs on the island are really poorly paid.

Advantages of a Working Holiday in Ibiza

Anyone who wants to get a taste of this fun loving island and earn money at the same time can really benefit from the experience. Getting to meet new friends and being able to join in the fun are just two of the bonuses of working over there, which is why the pay is so bad. A working holiday in Ibiza is the perfect solution for anyone who loves clubbing; the island is after all, the clubbing capital of the world.

How Easy is it to Find Work on the Island?

Because Ibiza is such a popular island, it’s quite hard to get a job over there. Many of the bar jobs go to people who have worked at them before. Working at one of the many clubs on the island means having to speak fluent Spanish as well as English because a lot of employers insist on this.

If you are new to the island, you are more likely to find PR work or ticket selling. Good looking girls stand a good chance of getting jobs as Jelly girls or dancers – but to get a job like this, you need to apply early!

You’ll have a better chance with some jobs if you are mobile, hiring a car is essential for some jobs, click here for some good deals for car rental in Ibiza.

What Sort of People Get Jobs Over There?

You need to be a party animal to work in Ibiza, it helps if you’re really outgoing by nature and super friendly. You also need to exude confidence, employers like staff with experience and who know their jobs like the back of their hands. It’s worth talking to job reps before accepting a job because they will offer valuable advice on which jobs are good or bad and which employers are best avoided.

When is the Best Time to Apply?

The best time to start looking for jobs in Ibiza is as early in the season as possible. Most job reps arrive on the island in May which is just before the recruitment season starts. Getting there early gives you time to settle yourself in and sort out all your paperwork. It gives you time to hand out a load of CVs to hiring managers too.

CVs & Job Visas

You need what is called a Spanish NIE number to work in Ibiza. The earlier you apply for one the better. In May it can take 2 to 3 days to get it but later in June and July it may take anything up to 6 months for the NIE to be issued. You will need to get your NIE yourself before you apply for a job on the island – but once you have put in your application some Spanish employers will offer you a job – but only if your NIE number is pending.

When it comes to your CV, it’s like applying for any other job. You will need to take your time and write one carefully. Don’t just hand it over to a potential boss and walk away. Instead try to use the time to build up a rapport with the boss during an interview. When the hiring process begins, the boss will stand a better chance of remembering who you are. Make sure your CV stands out from the crowd by jazzing it up, but stay truthful about your abilities.

Conclusion

You may love working out in Ibiza, but beware the wages are the worst in the whole of Europe. When it comes to finding accommodation, again beware it is very hard to find accommodation on the island. You will need to find accommodation on the island well in advance of arriving there.

When it comes to applying for jobs you have to be very motivated because everyone wants to work there which means there’s a lot of competition. If you speak Spanish you stand a much better chance of being offered a job, especially if it’s your first time on the island. The thing to remember is you will need to organise things as early as possible which includes accommodation, CV and NIE document – then it is just a question of persistence, determination and confidence.
